Mission

Kimmel Orchard is a popular destination for those seeking some of best orchard produce in the Missouri Valley. But it's much more than a produce market-Kimmel Orchard is a center for agricultural education and research, where visitors and families can enjoy a day in the country while learning how to care for the land through good stewardship.


Kimmel Foundation

The Kimmel Foundation is dedicated to the enhancement of the quality of life in Nebraska. Through its financial support of philanthropic organizations, it contributes to the ongoing mission reflected in the aspirations of Richard and Laurine Kimmel.


Programs

Educational and research programs at Kimmel Orchard offer science-based applied and adaptive research in areas such as sustainable agriculture, product marketing, viticulture, specialty value-added crops and agritourism.


History

In 1925, when Richard and Laurine Kimmel planted their first apple and cherry trees in the rolling hills north of Nebraska City, they built upon a legacy of education and research that began in this historic home of Arbor Day.

Kimmel Orchard's partnerships with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the National Arbor Day Foundation reflect not only the great historic missions of land grant education and Arbor Day stewardship, but also a continuing commitment to agricultural research and a sustainable future.

The Kimmel orchard complex offers something for everyone, from cider pressing demonstrations in the Apple Barn to lunch at the Kimmel Kitchen, from a browse in the gift shop to a stroll through our informative orchard trail.

Richard P. Kimmel grew up in Nebraska City where he attended school and graduated in 1915. After high school, he attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
