Agritourism The study and development of agricultural-related tourism is an important focus of the Kimmel Education and Research Center (KERC) at Kimmel Orchard. Agritourism works with agriculturally oriented tourists who are from the farm and/or from agribusinesses who are visiting to gain educational insights. It is also of growing importance to the general population, which has become more urbanized and more removed from the land and sources of food production. Agritourism provides new value-added opportunities for agricultural producers while at the same time helps the public maintain a link to the land they depend upon. Kimmel Orchard's Nebraska City location is ideal for agritourism development opportunities. The historic river community has a long and rich history of agricultural tourism as the home of Arbor Day and the National Arbor Day Foundation. |
