AppleJack Festival

Held in historic Nebraska City the third weekend in September each year, this celebration of the local apple harvest includes a parade, Miss Apple Jack Pageant, an air show, an antique car show, exhibits of quilts and other crafts, historic demonstrations and tours, a pie-baking contest, and a college football game dubbed the Apple Bowl.

In conjunction with Apple Jack and other fall festivities, Kimmel Orchard hosts wine
tasting that includes samples of Kimmel's own fast-selling apple wine, made from wholesome home-grown cider. As Kimmel's vineyard matures, Kimmel grape wines will also be available for tasting and purchase.

Arbor Day

Historic Nebraska City, which celebrated its 150th birthday in 2004, is also home of the international holiday, Arbor Day, celebrated the last weekend in April. This three-day event is celebrated throughout the city, including various activities at the Arbor Lodge mansion of Arbor Day Founder J. Sterling Morton, located in beautiful Arbor Lodge State Historical Park. The city also hosts a parade, craft shows, environmental games, and a variety of festival foods. Demonstrations, sales, and Shakespeare on the Green are all part of the weekend.

Fourth of July Celebration

Celebrate Independence Day with an array of food, fun, and fireworks in one of Nebraska's oldest cities. The day starts out with legion baseball games at Steinhart Park. Before the fireworks show there is an ice cream social and games for the family. When the sun goes down sit back and enjoy one of the best fireworks shows in the area at Steinhart Park.

Kimmel Orchard Antique Tractor & Engine Show

This annual event is held on the first Sunday of July and is open to the public.
All tractor and engine enthusiast are invited to attend and display their
equipment. Other activities include wine tasting, BBQ and Draft Horse
Teams.

Living History Days

These four fall weekends in October give visitors a chance to step back in time. While visiting Arbor Lodge State Park, visitors can get a first-hand feel of how Americans lived before they had many of the luxuries we have today. Watch demonstrations on broom making, sausage making, cider pressing, and china painting.

Home for the Holidays Christmas Event - First weekend in December

Kick off the holiday season with a weekend full of celebration in Nebraska City. A parade of costumed characters lead Santa Claus as he arrives to town in a horse-drawn sleigh. The parade winds through downtown, ending with the City Christmas Tree that Santa magically lights. The annual Christmas Tour of Homes is a big draw on Sunday. Local homeowners decorate for the holidays and invite the public to tour. There is a Horse-drawn Trolley Tour of Christmas Lights in the evening to top off the weekend.

Historic and Eventful Nebraska City

Historic Nebraska City is brimming with attractions, including outlet stories, museums, and other entertaining and cultural attractions. Nebraska City has the largest number of homes and commercial buildings on the National Register of Historic Places of any town in Nebraska. Entire blocks are filled with stately houses, some pre-dating the Civil War, and history is around every corner. Among historic and cultural attractions are Arbor Lodge State Historical Park & Arboretum; the National Arbor Day Foundation's Arbor Day Farm and the stately Lied Lodge Hotel; the elegant Victorian architecture of the Farmers Bank & Trust Co.; and historic buildings including the G.A.R. Hall, Mayhew Cabin, Taylor - Wessel - Bickel House (Nelson House); the Old Freighters Museum, Otoe County Courthouse (the oldest public building still in use in Nebraska), and Wildwood Historic Home, to name just a few.
