Harvests


Kimmel Orchard offers a variety of products made from its own orchard selections. Available year-round at the Apple Barn are apple and cherry cider, Farmer's Choice meats, jams, jellies, pies, apple doughnuts and caramel apples. These and other items are available at the produce market, gift shop, and for diners at the Apple Barn's Kimmel Kitchen.


Apple Harvest

From August to November, the apple harvest is a busy time at Kimmel. More than twenty varieties are harvested and sold at the Apple Barn ready for eating, pie-baking or cider-pressing. Apples have been grown at Kimmel Orchard for nearly 80 years, and today the orchard's growing selection appeals to a wide variety of tastes and needs.


Cherry Harvest

Kimmel is home to one of the biggest cherry orchards in the tri-state area (Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri), and is renown for its pleasingly tart Montmorency variety of cherries that are particularly prized for pie baking.

Peach Harvest

Tree ripened for freshness, Kimmel's peach selections provide a juicy treat for visitors between the busy cherry and apple seasons. Peach varieties, available from late July to late August, include Red Haven, Crest Haven and Loring.

Richard P. Kimmel grew up in Nebraska City where he attended school and graduated in 1915. After high school, he attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
