Raspberries

The Heritage variety of raspberries grown at Kimmel Orchard are harvested from July to late August. These sturdy, erect plants that do not require staking, yet produce huge, ruby red berries. Firm and attractive, this berry keeps well. In the future, Kimmel will sell fresh raspberries in the Apple Barn market as well as use them for a blend in its signature apple wine.

In Nebraska, raspberries are grown primarily by the home gardener and are used fresh or frozen, in jams, jellies and as a pie filling or dessert topping.

Red raspberries such as Heritage are widely grown in Nebraska and throughout the region. The canes of the red raspberries are upright, slender, and sucker readily from the roots of the parent plant. The berries are somewhat soft, and have good quality.
